One of the most important aspects of tolerance is embedding its practice in the day to day. One of the ways of doing this is to work on a community project, which helps to build understanding of others, gives practice in working together and lets the children choose what project would have the most impact.
One of our partners, the Citizenship Foundation, runs a programme that supports teachers and pupils in such projects.
The Make a Difference challenge is a child-led active citizenship project for KS2 that supports pupils in identifying, researching and addressing a cause that they democratically choose to do something about, by developing an awareness-raising campaign, fundraising or taking direct action. It presents an opportunity for children to take the lead in making a difference to their communities. It provides an excellent context for meaningful SMSC learning, literacy, numeracy and personal development and supports Pupil Voice.
